Lifeguard Blended Learning Training Course at River Edge Swim Club will take place TBA (Start date subject to change)
You must complete the blended learning portion and have a certificate of completion on the first day of class.
Course description;
The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. This program offers a choice of lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience.
You Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
This is a Blended Learning Course where you must do a portion of the training online FIRST before you can attend the class.
Once registered, you will receive an email outlining what needs to be done online. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate that must be brought to the training on the first day.
On the first day of class, after you have shown proof that you have completed your online session, you will then have to demonstrate the following:
Prerequisites:
- Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles are allowed.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they can get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance underwater.
Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Certification Requirements:
Attend all class sessions, successfully perform all required skills, complete three final skill scenarios, and pass the written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent or better on each section.
Certification Validity:
Certification Validity- Lifeguard Training/First Aid/ CPR/AED -2 years.

Important Notes:
- This is a Blended learning class. Course length: 19 hours, 30 minutes in-person, and 7 hours 30 minutes online. Total – 27 hours
- Once the class is available, you will receive an email with the online session link.
- You must complete the online portion of the class 24 hours before the first day of the course.
- Please bring your certificate of achievement to the first day of the course to be guaranteed a spot.
Remember to bring your:
- Proof of Completing Online Class
- Bathing suit
- Towel
- Notebook and pen
- Snacks (optional)
Payment & Refunds:
There will be a fee for this class. Payment will be required on the first day of class, along with certification of completion for the blended learning portion. Failure to pass the pretest will allow a refund of all tuition fees. Failure or missing more than two classes will not allow a refund.
